Unit of Learning 1

2nd Year - Lino Printing

Theme - Hybrids

Aim

Through the use of drawing and printing, students will be able to design and create a 1-2 colour lino print based off a series of observational, gestural and technical sketches, while looking at the AEDP’s related to the project; Line, Shape, and Colour. 

Learning Outcomes

  • Critical & visual Language: 2.3 reflect on their own, or another’s, craftwork through the use of critical and visual language.

  • Media: 1.15 critique the choice of media in their own or others’ artwork

  • Visual Culture and Appreciation: 1.8 discuss examples of historical and contemporary visual art (Print)

  • Drawing:  1.4 demonstrates how they use drawing to observe, record and analyse the understanding and the world around them.

  • AEDP: 3.10 explains the use of art elements and design principles in examples of design work and in their own work.

Unit of Learning 2

1st Year - Comic Books

Theme - A Day in the Life of Me

Aim

Through the use of drawing and sketching, students will be able to design and create a comic book based off a series of sketches, while looking at the AEDP’s related to the project; Line, Shape, and Colour. ​

Learning Outcomes

  • Investigate their own personal approach to craftwork through the technical and creative application of drawing and mark-making.

  • Reflect on their own, or another's craftwork, through the use of critical & visual language. 

  • Interpret the narrative, symbols, and functions, used in craftwork from their own and other world cultures.

  • Explain the use of the Art Elements & Design Principles in examples of design works.

  • Identify media which are used to create artwork. 

Unit of Learning 3

6th Year - Art History

Theme - The Iron Age

Aim

Through visual, verbal and physical learning, students will be able to recall, understand and identify the historical features of The Iron Age, and also the artefacts and metalworking techniques relating to The Iron Age era.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand and explain the lives of the Iron Age People (Food, Houses, Survival, Farming etc).

  • Describe in detail and discuss the artefacts of The Iron Age (La Tene, Derrynaflan Hoard, Ardagh Chalice, etc) through verbal and visual questioning. 

  • Be able to enjoy, value, talk and write about the art history topic that has been covered.
